Site of Women's Rights/Temperance Convention -- Meetings were held at State Street Baptist Church during the Women's State Temperance Convention in 1853. At that time, State Street Baptist Church was located on the corner of State Street and High Street. (The latter street no longer exists, but was situated near present-day Robert Abrams Building for Law and Justice in the Empire State Plaza.) The Assembly Chamber of the Capitol also served as a meeting place during the Convention.
